7TH Do Over Challenge

This is the first challenge of the year that I have had time to participate in....

This is what Jeannie sent me...

A pretty and colorful bracelet with a hanging charm (shown above).

When I opened the package from Jeannie I thought the bracelet was cute already!
I was truly stumped with which direction to go? I could take apart every hand applied crystal from the chain, but then what? Because I really liked the charm bracelet look I thought about saving that piece and incorporating it into a necklace.

But first, I took off the round watercolor looking pendant and carefully cut off the loop. After realizing it needed to be a focal point I decided to turn it into a Ring!

But, my second problem was actually making the ring. I felt it needed to rest on top of something to stand out more! So I grabbed a brass washer from my stash that I keep for jewelry making.

I applied a layer of blue-green paint and let dry. Then, using a rubber stamp I stamped 2 layers of a brown-gold color paint and let dry between each layer. Tip: dab off excess paint immediately after stamping. Once dry, spray a couple layers of clear coat onto the washer and let dry.

Lastly, I glued the pendant onto the washer and glued a ring back behind the pendant (it fit perfectly through the washer hole). Hope you like the Ring! It was fun to make and figure out the design.

Now for the Necklace...

Now do you see why I couldn't make myself take apart that cute and colorful bracelet!

I had the perfect chain from Joann Art & Fabric Store to add to this and create a necklace. The brass in my chain matched perfectly to the bracelet chain! And I loved how the necklace came together so effortlessly. It really felt like it was meant to become a Spring or Summer necklace...I hope you think so too!

Here's another pic showing an asymmetrical look as well.

Thanks for visiting and be sure to continue the blog hop and see what the other participants created.

Thank you Jeannie for hosting this challenge and I can't wait till the next one!

Oh my that ring is so stinking cool. I love working with washers. That's polymer clay in the brass bezel btw.
It looks way better as a necklace. It looks like colorful blossoms growing a leafy trellis. Thank you so much for joining me and looking forward to the next one.

That ring is great! Love it! I also have problems sometimes taking apart the pieces Jeannie sent. You did the perfect job to incorporate the piece into a necklace.

Gasp! Gorgeous! Very, very clever use of the 'focal'. Both pieces are wonderful.

I like your necklace. I had a similar problem with my bracelet, I thought it was fine as is. I love how you kept it in tact and just repurposed it. The ring will make a great discussion point for your next cocktail party :)

The ring is a great use for the focal! And using the bracelet intact was genius! I kind of liked the original too!

I love that ring! That is really a do over since it is so different from the original and it's beautiful. The necklace is excellent as well. Definitely a wonderful summer piece.

What lovely results! You ended up with two very wearable and coordinating pieces. And I would never have thought of making a ring. You did great!

What a fun ring you made - I love the washer that you added to the focal to give it visual weight, and thank you for including your process as well! The necklace is my kind of jewelry - I love the asymmetrical look, and I don't blame you for not wanting to take apart all of that wirework. Great job!

Roxi your ring is great. I can see why you left the bracelet together. I agree that it looked good together. Using it as a necklace focal was very creative.

I love that ring, what a great idea! And I totally agree with you on the bracelet, I wouldn't have been able to take that apart. It really works in the necklace.

That ring is beautiful- talk about thinking out of the box! Parlaying the bracelet into a necklace gives it a fresh, new look and the colors pop. Christie

Quite often I am stumped when I try to do a make over because the first piece is great. I love how you saved the charm bracelet and made it more. Just perfect.
